In a strategic move to reinforce its footprint in Mexico’s industrial heartland, Siemens has greenlit a substantial modernization project at its Balvanera plant, located in Corregidora, Querétaro.
Modernization Targets Core Infrastructure
The initiative focuses on overhauling the plant’s physical and operational foundations. Key elements include:
- Renovation of buildings and essential machinery.
- Integration of digital and automated workflows.
- Expansion of prefabrication capabilities, notably through new painting, bending, and punching equipment.
These upgrades aim to bolster productivity and efficiency across Siemens México’s electrification and automation division.
Historic Facility, Renewed Potential
Opened in 1987, the Balvanera plant has been a longstanding asset—close to four decades of continuous operation. It specializes in the manufacturing of medium-voltage products, serving as a key supplier for electrical distribution and control solutions.
Its current manufacturing processes span:
- Prefabrication: punching, welding, painting
- Assembly: both electrical and mechanical
- Testing: primary and control inspections
- Logistics: packaging and shipment
This modernization not only preserves the plant’s legacy but accelerates its evolution into a digitally advanced hub.
Investment Scope and Synergies in Querétaro
This new phase adds approximately MXN 784 million to Siemens’ existing investments in Querétaro. When combined with the earlier Greenfield project in Kaizen Industrial Park—announced in 2023 and launched in 2024—the total investment now stands at approximately MXN 1,874 million.
Investment Breakdown:
- Kaizen (2023–24): ~MXN 1,090 million
- Balvanera Modernization (2025): +MXN 784 million
- Total in Querétaro: ~MXN 1,874 million
This latest commitment aligns with Siemens’ broader strategy across Mexico, which includes significant investments in Nuevo León and deeper integration of digital and sustainable technologies.
Strategic Vision and Regional Confidence
Alejandro Preinfalk, President & CEO of Siemens Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, emphasized that these investments “reflect our confidence in Mexico as a strategic engine for industrial innovation in the region.” He added that enhancing operations in Querétaro and other sites not only increases production capacity but also strengthens commitments to technological development, sustainability, and local value creation.
Furthermore, Siemens continues to maintain and expand its presence across Mexico—including key facilities in Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Mexico City (Vallejo), and Guadalajara—underlining the country’s importance in its regional network.
Why This Matters
Querétaro’s transformation under Siemens’ modernization drive is a clear indicator of Mexico’s growing role as a hub for advanced manufacturing. For companies and stakeholders looking to engage with industrial development, the evolving landscape presents numerous opportunities.
