Mexico Hits Historic High in Auto Production
In June 2025, Mexico’s automotive industry broke records, producing 362,047 light vehicles — the highest monthly figure ever recorded. This represents a 4.8% increase compared to the same month in 2024, according to data from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA). This milestone solidifies Mexico’s strategic role as a global manufacturing hub.
Strong Export Growth Reflects a Robust First Half
Mexico’s auto exports surged in June, reinforcing the country’s role as a reliable global supplier:
- 331,517 units were shipped abroad — marking a solid 14% year-over-year increase.
- Leading the charge were General Motors with 72,324 vehicles, followed by Nissan with 53,289, up 27.1%.
This strong momentum confirms that international demand for vehicles produced in Mexico remains high — particularly in the U.S. and Latin America.
While the first half of the year closed with 1.66 million vehicles exported, this figure represents a modest 2.8% dip compared to the same period in 2024 — a variation largely influenced by logistical factors and the realignment of inventories across regions.

Top Performers in June
According to AMIA and Inegi, the brands that stood out in June include:
- Toyota, leading production with 27,108 vehicles, up 24.7%
- Kia, up 24.3% in assembled units
Export growth was led by:
- GM: +56.4%
- Nissan: +27.1%
- Kia: +20.7%
These numbers reinforce the strength of Mexico’s export-oriented assembly model, supported by stable trade routes and qualified labor.
Warning Signs from the U.S. Market
Despite the production boom, industry leaders remain cautious. AMIA’s Director, Odracir Barquera, warned that the U.S. trade stance could impact the sector. While vehicles complying with USMCA rules are protected, policy uncertainty could push companies to consider relocating their production.
The Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) estimates that total car sales in 2025 could reach 1,490,983 units, a slight 0.4% drop from the previous year — showing that domestic demand may not keep pace with production levels.

First Half of 2025: Growth with Caveats
Between January and June, Mexican plants built 2,006,720 vehicles, a modest 0.4% increase year-over-year. Still, it marks the strongest first half since 2019 — a sign that recovery from pandemic-era disruptions continues.
