General Motors announced investing more than $1 billion in Ramos Arizpe Manufacturing Complex

Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, April 29, 2021 - General Motors announced that it is investing more than one billion dollars in the Ramos Arizpe Manufacturing Complex to inaugurate a new Paint Plant with innovative technology, which will begin operations in June 2021.

Part of this initial investment will also prepare the Complex for an expansion of the Assembly and Global Propulsion Systems (GPS) Plants with the goal of making the Ramos Arizpe Complex the fifth GM North America manufacturing site to produce electric vehicles, joining Spring Hill, Tennessee; Factory Zero, in Detroit-HamTramck, Michigan; Orion, also in Michigan; and CAMI, in Ontario, Canada.

General Motors Ramos Arizpe has begun construction of its new facilities within the Complex, where GM-branded electric vehicles will be produced starting in 2023. Batteries and electric components will also be produced, starting in the second half of 2021 with the manufacture of "Drive Units", the propulsion system that drives electric vehicles.

"We are very proud to contribute to the realization of GM's Vision of Zero Collisions, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion by contributing to the manufacture of electric vehicles," said Francisco Garza, President and CEO. "We are confident that the necessary economic conditions will be in place so that eventually the Complex will be able to grow the workforce by one more shift in some operations. We are grateful to the Federal Government and the Government of Coahuila for promoting this investment. This is great news to continue celebrating more than 85 years of GM in Mexico and to show our commitment to the country".

General Motors' investment in Ramos Arizpe will also include improvements to the general infrastructure of the Complex, such as in the areas of materials, canteens, medical service and recreational spaces, among others.

"GM Ramos Arizpe is celebrating 40 years since it was inaugurated and since its beginnings it has been extremely relevant for the corporation, emblematic vehicles have come out of our production lines such as Chevrolet Celebrity, Century, El Camino and Chevy, among many others," said Alicia del Valle, Executive Director of the Ramos Arizpe Assembly Plant. "This manufacturing complex has fostered the development of talent and suppliers in the region and we are very pleased to welcome the new project that brings the future to the present."

GM Ramos Arizpe will continue to produce Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Blazer, as well as Engines and Transmissions. It currently has 5,600 direct employees and, in addition to production for the domestic market, exports to more than 40 countries.

Additional details on models, production start-up and markets will be announced at a later date.
